Solo and Ensemble

January 26, 2019

Solo and Ensemble festival is right around the corner! The event will be held at Southridge HS on January 26th, 2019. Preparations for the event will be happening throughout November.

For those who have never participated, Solo and Ensemble is an opportunity for students to play a prepared piece of music for an educator specialized on their specific instrument for feedback and ratings. Students earn a bronze, silver, or gold rating depending on their performance level. It is not a competition. Schools from across the state participate in the event, which includes beginners all the way to high school seniors. It is a great way to give students the experience of performing in a high-pressure situation in a very safe setting. It also is a great way to represent our school and band program!

Registration is due on November 26th.  Ensembles are three or more students made up of instruments from the same family (woodwinds and brass cannot mix). Solo events have a $15 fee, while ensemble events have a $7 fee per person. Please do not let the fees be the reason for not participating; contact Mr. Peterson and we can work something out! Fees are due with the registration on Nov 26th.

It is an all day event. The exact schedule for performance will not be released until closer to the date. We will provide a bus for transportation to the event, though the bus will be staying the entire day. You are more than welcome to drive up on your own and leave after your performance.

Solo and Ensemble is not mandatory, though highly encouraged. Students will be given class time to prepare for the event. Students not participating in the event will receive an alternate assignment.
